Breville Juicer Reviews (Fat Sick and Nearly Dead juicer)

by Keith

“Not Sure Which Juicer To Buy? Us Too. Until We Came Across The Breville Juicer Line-Up”

Ah juicing.

Part of me goes to that place where, late at night, I would view Jack LaLanne raving about the health benefits Breville BJE200XL 700-Watt Compact Juice Fountainassociated with juicing, and while the machines that are sold bearing his name may or may not be great, the other part of me (the critical part) forces me to investigate and hunt down the very best that the industry has to offer. So I’ve written up some Breville juicer reviews here that might help you choose a good product.

The reason I feel compelled to mention Jack’s product in the first place, I should say, is because for better or worse, it seems to be the measuring stick that all others are judged by.

With that being said, I’ll leave anything else related to the actual review for a little later, stay with me, and together we’ll figure out if one of my very favorite brands makes the top notch juicer that we are looking for.

The juicer used in the film is a Breville Juicer and a branded version can usually be found discounted at Amazon. (But read on before you buy it. It’s not necessarily the best one.)

Fat Sick And Nearly Dead Juicer

It’s funny what a small world we live in (or maybe it’s just mine) but without even realizing it while thinking about this review, I picked up a copy of this documentary. I won’t go into the details of the movie, other than to say it’s fantastic and has won a lot of awards.

Oh one other small fact: the star outside of the gentlemen who made it is none other than the Breville Juice Fountain juicer. I truly didn’t know that this was going to be the case but the movie is pretty inspiring and it will likely sell a lot of these juicers!

Is It The Best Juicer To Buy? – Let’s Take A Closer Look

Breville 800JEXL

Breville Juicer Reviews

The topic here is the Breville Juicer line-up, obviously, and while there are a few different models you get the same basic result from all of them.

The difference comes down to price, pulp & juice capture method, sizes and motors.

The most popular model, according to Amazon, is the BJE200XL 700 Watt Compact. This juicer is a little different than the rest of the line as it contains the pulp in a basket that is fitted around the top of the juicer, instead of in a bin on the side of the machine. The BJE200XL retails at a slim $149.99 so that may have a something to do with it as well. With 700 watts operating at 13,000 RPM is awfully powerful for an entry level product, but then this is Breville we are talking about. The specifications for all models are posted a little later in the review.

Model number 800JEXL represents the top of the line in Breville juicers. This knock-out employs an Italian made digital motor, similar to a Dyson vacuum. A digital motor is “smart” in that it detects, and regulates power usage for efficiency and consistency. In a juicer that means better, more efficient juice extraction. Plainly put, you get all of the juice out of, whatever it is you put into, the juicer. That’s only the first of a whole list of nice features.

Many of the models have two speeds, this one included, but the 800JEXL also factors in patented, dual action, diagonal knife blades encased by a titanium-plated stainless steel cutting disc. The knife has 115 individual blades too, so grinding down pulp is never a problem.

It’s worthwhile noting that Breville mentions juice escaping between the plastic cover, and the stainless filter bowl surround. They recommend using the slow speed and pushing food that has a higher water content, such as watermelon, into the juicer slowly to avoid this. According to Breville, this is normal because their juicers are so fast, and because they feed juice at such a rapid rate.

Even though the 800JEXL recommended price is $399.99 you can get it for at least $100 less than that if you check out Amazon. They usually have free delivery too and I find their customer service is second to none.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

There are four models in the Juice Fountain line-up, and as mentioned they differ in various ways. It’s very interesting to me, then, that the “pros” and “cons” that I found for each of these were very similar regardless of model. It’s also interesting that, possibly over half of the “cons” were at odds with what another customer would say.

To further confuse things it would appear that, researching reviews all over the internet reveals more positive reviews as time goes by. In other words, all of the juicers rank

consistently high, very high even, so it’s good that the negative reviews are more consistently found the further back in time you go. As I said Breville is good about progress.

One thing that comes up fairly often, unfortunately, is poor customer service. As distressing as that may seem, however, remember that customers who have had a bad experience are more likely to write a review than someone who has had a positive experience. One customer, I noticed, was very happy with their experience, and said that they received “excellent” customer service. This involved the replacement of his juicer for free even though the problem was his fault. Postage was paid by Breville as well.

OVERALL

It can be very confusing to try to sort out the good from the bad, especially if you have more than a couple of models to choose from. Owners of these machines are fairly passionate about juicing, and want the freshest, best quality juice possible. That’s understandable.

The hard part is in the contradictions, one person will say, “it’s so loud you need ear-plugs” another will say it’s “whisper quiet”, one customer will be shocked when they find that it costs a lot of money to buy the fruits and vegetables to even make the juice, while another has a garden and it costs them nothing. Therefore, I commend you, dear reader, for considering these things.

THE BREVILLE COMPANY

Breville is a Sydney, Australia based company that makes a relatively small selection of kitchen items. Like some other appliance makers, the company DNA can be seen throughout their product line. Typically their products exude quality, heft and value in the opinion of those lucky enough to own them. If you can’t stand stainless steel, and some can’t, Breville will not appeal to you. For the other 99% of us the design, with thoughtful little touches, like the infamous easy pull plug, and lovely switchgear, is a treat.

Breville was founded in 1932 their claim is to “…engineer kitchen tools to deliver commercial quality performance that looks great and are easy to use. We are passionate about listening to what obstacles the home chef encounters and creating a simple solution.”

Reading over that statement and knowing a little about the company, their claim seems reasonable, no fluff there.

MISSION STATEMENT

“To Design the Best Kitchen Tools in the World.”

Again, seems reasonable. I think Breville works to improve their design, perhaps, more than a few of its competitors. I came across a SKU that was no longer in the Breville catalogue, it turns out they had discontinued the design in favor of a new upgraded model. That’s not to say that the previous model was an inferior product, it’s just that they are not afraid of progress. This, of course, is a frequent occurrence in many industries, but I haven’t seen it in the kitchen appliance industry much. That’s got to be one of the benefits of having a relatively low number of models to begin with.

EXPLORING THE COMPANY WEBSITE

The Breville website is a straightforward, wealth of information. The greatest feature being the interactive “living Manual”, find it under BrevilleUSASupport.com http://www.brevilleusasupport.com By poking around and finding your specific product, you will find tons of great info, from how to use your device, to care, set-up and PDF files. They truly have gone above and beyond here. In fact, I highly recommend anyone considering the purchase of one of their products taking a look, I think you will find it to be a delight as well.

FINAL WORD

By focusing their energy and resources on the relative “high end” of the marketplace, has Breville achieved its mission, “To Design the Best Kitchen Tools in the World”? Well, I wish I could answer that in a truthful, and comprehensive way. What I can say, however, is that they seem to make solid, great looking and operating appliances. Put that way it sounds kind of boring and yet Breville really isn’t, they have a knack for making their products feel special in a way that other manufacturers would pay dearly for.

So then, truthfully, all of the models listed come highly recommended. The comments listed in the “What Others are Saying”, above, are but a tiny sample of what owners have to say about these machines, but what it all comes down to, in my opinion, is that if you want a centrifugal (spinning type) juicer the Breville line-up is definitely worth a look. Put another way, I’d buy one.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I PAY? AND WHERE CAN I GET IT?

For the most popular model, the BJE200XL, you shouldn’t need to pay more than $130. Often we find Amazon has the best prices on these machines and they usually do free shipping which makes a big difference to the final total.
